Lunar dates: Construction or renovation work should preferably be started during waxing Moon. Waxing Moon is known as Shukla Paksha. Fourteen days up to the full Moon are known as Shukla Paksha or waxing Moon. Fourteen days after the full Moon up to the new Moon are known as Krishna Paksha or waning Moon. 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 11th and 13th lunar dates of waxing Moon are considered auspicious for starting construction or renovations.

Days: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are good days. Sunday, Tuesday and Saturday should best be avoided.

Astrological position of Sun: 
Sun in Aries, Taurus, Cancer, Leo, Libra, Scorpio, Capricorn and Aquarius is considered good for such work. The Sun remains in these signs roughly on the following dates.

April 14 to June 14
July 17 to Sept 16
Oct 18 to Dec 15
Jan 14 to March 14

Sun in Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces is not considered very auspicious for starting construction or renovations. Sun remains in these signs roughly on the following dates.

March 15 to April 3
June 15 to July 6
Sept 17 to Oct 17
Dec 16 to Jan 13 

Foundation digging and leveling the ground:

The ancient classical texts offer different suggestions for doing this. The astrological position of the Sun plays a very important role here again. Foundation digging or leveling of the ground should be started from different corners in different months as per the position of Sun in different zodiacal signs;

Start from South East: When Sun is in Leo, Virgo and Libra, roughly from Aug 17 to Nov 16.
Start from North East: When Sun is in Scorpio, Sagittarius and Capricorn, roughly from Nov 17 to Feb 13.
Start from North West: When Sun is in Aquarius, Pisces and Aries. Feb 14 to May 15.
Start from South West: When Sun is in Taurus, Gemini and Cancer. May 16 to Aug 1
